In fact, since I've lived in Alaska, I've seen just what a prominent role the Alaska bed and breakfast "scene" plays, each year, when it comes to Alaska vacation lodging options.
The reason?
I think it is because when one comes to Alaska, a different kind of experience
is desired. You don't come to Alaska to set up camp in a low-end hotel room.
Whether you plan to stay in Anchorage, Wasilla or Palmer... your choices will range from rustic to very elegant.
Compare this to the low-end salaried desk clerk or someone who cleans room for an hourly wage. The difference will be obvious.
Additionally, I like that most Alaska bed and breakfast owners are a wealth of information on their particular part of Alaska.
Rather than relying soley on a travel brochure, you might hear
tips on great places to see, where to eat etc....and it'll be all based on personal experiences.
Believe me, I found this out when I first arrived in Anchorage. Talk about hotel room sticker shock!
Via these CVBs many Alaska bed and breakfast owners coordinate and work together with other complimenting businesses.
So when it comes to transportation or tour arrangements, most bed and breakfast owners are usually good at helping you.
They know who is doing what where and how to get there!
I saw this first hand when I used to drive for Alaskan Splendor (limousine and car service).
I picked up and transportated many guest, from the Alaska's Harvest Bed and Breakfast for example, and then took them to where they needed to go.
Sometimes it was to the airport, the nearby fishing charter, flightseeing operation
or other Alaska adventure fun.
