Anchorage is Alaska's largest city, but without some good directions, it is still very possible to get yourself lost.
On this Anchorage Alaska map page I attempt to provide all the information you'll need to get around, and find places to see, while on your Alaska vacation.
Because I live here (and probably because I am a guy) I have typically tried to find things without a
map, but that has caused its share of frustration, of course. My only saving grace is usually
my wife Sheri, sitting next to me with map in hand, giving great directions. It is like she has a map in
her head.

Let's start out with some basic "lay of the land" information about Anchorage and its surrounding area.
Eastbound 5th Avenue eventually turns into The Glenn Highway. The Glenn Highway heads north
to locations such as Eagle River, Wasilla, Palmer, Talkeetna, Fairbanks and Glennallen.
L Street travels south and eventually turns into Minnesota Dr, a major road in town. Minnesota eventually connects to the New Seward Highway.
Gamble Street turn off of 5th Ave and heads south. It eventually becomes The New Seward Highway.
The Seward Highway heads south out of town to places such as Girdwood, Whittier, Seward and Homer.

That is a very good question! As you pour over the map of Anchorage you will notice that J Steet is missing. There is no J Street!
While on tour of the downtown Anchorage area, we was told that early Norwegian settlers to Anchorage had a hard time pronouncing the letter "J", so it was omitted.
Then of course, you can find many different varieties of maps of Anchorage at any Wal-Mart, Target or local bookstore.
