Alaska Vacation Home: Anchorage Weather
Anchorage Weather!Alaska Weather - So What is the Weather Like at the Top of The World?![]() When it comes to weather, and Anchorage weather is no exception, it is just a matter of what you are acclamated to. At the height of summer the temperature in Anchorage averages around 65 degrees (18 Celsius). When it approaches the 70 degree mark (21 Celsius), or higher, most Alaskan's think they are going to die of the heat! I'm not kidding....really! I once saw a bumper sticker, while driving around Anchorage, that said quite simply....."Summer Sucks!"
The bumper sticker was created by a local snowmobile club (we call them snowmachines
up here), so the context was that "summer sucks" because they long for the
winter when they can "ride".
Anchorage Weather in the SummerAlaska is so big that a single weather report isn't going to tell the whole story. Being located in South Central Alaska, Anchorage Weather is more temperate than the stereotypical weather that you image when thinking of Alaska. The best weather months for Anchorage are in May, June and July. And yes, it can rain on any given day up here. But the odds against that are the highest during those three months.
Now, when it comes to August....all bets are off. Typical Anchorage weather
in August, will bring rain. The state fair, in Palmer Alaska (north of Anchorage
by 45 miles, is in August. And you can almost always count on rain during the State Fair.
Fairbanks WeatherIf your Alaska travel plans include a trip to Mt. McKinley (Denali), know that the temperature in that part of Alaska differs. Mt. McKinley is located in interior Alaska. The weather in the interior of the state, near Fairbanks, is much hotter in the summer and much colder in the winter. Temperatures there exceed 100 degrees (38 Celsius) on a pretty regular basis. But even though having said that I still recommend that you bring, at least, a light jacket. That is probably all you'll need, unless you are out on a fishing trip on the ocean.. Then something a little more substantial might be in order. Winter WeatherAnchorage weather in the winter is cold, of course, but no where near as cold as the interior and the northern parts of the state. Anchorage weather benefits from the "warmer" winds coming off the ocean and inlet.Current Anchorage WeatherCurrent Fairbanks WeatherCurrent Juneau WeatherCurrent Wasilla Weather |
