Alaska Air Travel: Flights to Alaska

Flights to Alaska Just Might Be Cheaper in Summer 2010!

5 February 2010

Thanks to an announced increase in total flights to Alaska this summer, many Alaskan, especially ones that are associated with a financial stake in the Alaska travel industry are hoping for lower-priced air fares to Alaska.

On Friday, February 5th 2010, United, Continental, Delta and US Airways all announced that they would step up flights to the frontier state. Hopefully this will drive the price of airfare to Alaska down.

These newly scheduled flights to Anchorage and Fairbanks will be non-stop flight from Chicago, San Francisco, Chicago, Portland and Philadelphia!

In a year that total ships cruising to Alaska will decline by 14% (meaning higher prices), this just might be the year to fly to Alaska and not take the Alaskan cruise.

New Non-Stop, Round-Trip Flights This Summer to Alaska

Anchorage-Philadelphia, US Airways 1 June - 7 September 2010

Anchorage-Portland Oregon, Continental, June 7 - Sept 6

Anchorage-Denver, United, June 10 - August 30

Anchorage-San Francisco, June 9 - August 30

Anchorage-Chicago, United Airlines, May 15 - August 30

Fairbanks-Denver May 14 - September 12

Fairbanks-Salt Lake City, Utah, Delta Airlines, June 25 - No end data announced! (Note: Delta already provides year-round flights to Anchorage)

This Might Be The Year To Fly to Alaska

I'm certainly not anti-cruise, but I've often thought it sad when Alaskan cruise ship travelers cruise north to Anchorage, with just enough time to get to the Anchorage Airport and fly back home. There is so much to see, and it all starts in Anchorage. It doesn't end in Anchorage!

In many ways this is the same as someone cruising from the tip of Florida to New Orleans, and flying back home. Did they really see the United States? No not really! They merely scratched the surface.

My hope is that there will truly be lower airfares to Alaska this summer and that it will cause more people to take flights to Alaska.

They can still see the beautiful coastlines (like they'd see on a cruise ship to Alaska) by scheduling a half day or whole day Alaska Glacier Cruise in the amazingly beautiful Prince William Sound area, yet they can still see all that there is to see, starting from Anchoreage.
