How to Plan for Stress Free Travel to Alaska

Anchorage Airport

Travel to Alaska is an incredible vacation spot, but traveling there can be stressful for first-time visitors.

Alaska is so vast that if it were a country it would be considered the 14th largest in the world!

With so much land available to experience, you may want to focus your stay on the Anchorage and surrounding areas since they have everything to offer and cater to tourists.

Cut Down Flight Status Stress

Know your flight status and keep track of it for any changes or alerts. Arrive at the airport early, preferably three hours for an international departure and present the proper travel documents.

The extra travel time you plan for will cut down tremendously on the stress, since you don't want to find yourself down to the wire and running late for the flight. If you are taking gifts to loved ones in Alaska, don`t wrap them before the trip.

Any items you take with you are subject to inspection, so it's easier to wait until you arrive to gift wrap. Depending on the airline, you may be able to check in from home and print your boarding pass in advance.

Popular Alaskan Destinations

Popular destinations in Alaska include Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Nome and Ketchikan. It's a good idea to rent a car of RV to take in the most scenery while there, since Alaska has more scenic highways than any other state in America.

It's also unlikely that tourists will get lost driving in the south central part of the state. If you travel to Anchorage, for example, there are only two ways in and out of town.

Other methods of transportation include train, ferryboat, taxis and air charters. Traveling by air charter ensures that you will see parts of the countryside most tourists only dream of.

Remember, overall there are still very few roads in Alaska!

To reduce costs, consider flying into Alaska on the red eye. Overnight flights are fun and cheaper than flying during normal hours.

It's not uncommon for Alaska Airlines flights to arrive as late as 2AM. Once you land at the airport, find your luggage and arrange transportation.

There is most likely a hotel shuttle service available if you have made reservations with a nearby hotel. Contact your accommodation ahead of time, preferably before leaving for your trip, to ask about pick up times or phone numbers where the shuttle service can be reached.

Once you walk out into the crisp Alaskan air, you will find a notable absence of the UK airport parking traffic.

Alaska is a great destination for your vacation. Just take a deep breath, plan and relax.
